えっ？なんにでも砂糖？

北海道グルメといえば、海鮮やジンギスカン、チーズなどの乳製品、スープカレーなどが有名だと思うのですが、実は北海道にはあま～いものがたくさんあるんですよ。
甘いものに目がない人、スイーツ大好きって人は多いのではないでしょうか？今では“スイーツ男子”なんて言葉もあるくらいですしね＾＾
甘いものでもスイーツや和菓子ならたいていの人が喜んで食べると思うのですが、スイーツとはちょっと違う北海道のあま～い食べ物を知っていますか？
どんなものがあるのか少しご紹介しますね♪

まずは、一般的にはケチャップやマスタードをつけて食べるアメリカンドッグですが、十勝や釧路、根室、北見網走(オホーツク)の辺りでは、アメリカンドッグに砂糖をつけるのが一般的で、“アメリカンドッグ”ではなく“フレンチドッグ”と呼ばれています。
フレンチドッグ道東のコンビニや釧路地方のスーパーで買えたり、祭りの屋台などでも並んでいるんですよ。これはテレビで見たことがある人もいるかもしれませんね＾＾

おめでたい時によく出てくる赤飯は、もち米に小豆が入っているのが一般的だと思うのですが、北海道の赤飯には甘納豆や金時豆といった大きくて甘いお豆が入っているんですよ。その甘納豆や金時豆が入った赤飯にゴマやゴマ塩をかけて食べるのですが、甘い豆と塩味が絶妙なんです＾＾
赤飯この赤飯は、北海道全土での食べ方ではなく札幌を中心とした道央で親しまれていて、道北や道東、道南といった地域ではあまりなじみがないという家庭もあります。

茶碗蒸しいには銀杏ではなく栗の甘露煮が入っていて、茶わん蒸し自体も甘いのが特徴。卵に砂糖と牛乳を入れて蒸せばプリンになるわけだから、暖かいプリンみたいだと喜んで食べる子どもが多いのも納得＾＾

他にも、納豆には醤油と砂糖。砂糖の量は人によってさまざまですが、一般的には少量をいれます。えっ！？と思う組み合わせかもしれませんが、納豆特有の成分である「ナットウキナーゼ」と砂糖は相性が良く栄養的には良い組み合わせなんだそうですよ。といっても、この食べ方も北海道の人がみんなしているわけではなくごく一部なんですけどね＾＾

そもそも、なんでこんなに甘い食べ物が多いのかと言いますと、雪が深い寒い地域では糖分は熱を発生させる重要な栄養源でしたし、開拓時代は砂糖は貴重でごちそうでもありました。そうした背景から、あま～い食べ方が生まれ今でも根付いているようですよ＾＾

どの食べ方も北海道の人みんながしているわけではなく、地域によって違いはあるので誤解はしないでくださいね＾＾
