北海道の人気の温泉地②

　前回の「北海道人気の温泉地」では、北海道の中でも特に人気のある温泉地を中心に紹介しましたが、いかがでしたでしょうか。
　この度は、その続きと言うことで、北海道ならではの特徴を持った温泉地を紹介していきたいと思います。

『定山渓温泉』
　所在地：北海道札幌市南区定山渓温泉
　お問い合わせ：011-598-2012（定山渓温泉観光協会）

　札幌の市街地から南方向に約26kmのところの山間にある「定山渓温泉」は、「札幌の奥座敷」とも称される美しい景観を持つ温泉地です。
　札幌の市街地からも近いということから、地元の人だけでなく観光客や海外からの旅行者も毎年多く訪れています。
　
　「定山渓温泉」は、北海道の中でも特に歴史のある古い温泉地で、1866年ごろに美泉定山がアイヌの人々に連れられて開泉したと言われています。
　現在でも「定山渓温泉」の温泉は、豊平川の川底から湧いているとされていて、豊平川の川沿いには多くの温泉宿が立ち並んで温泉街を形成しています。
　「定山渓温泉」の周辺の景色は、どの季節も美しいですが、特におすすめしたい季節は「秋」です。
　　秋には、周りの山々が一気に紅色に染まり、本当に見事な景色を造りだしますよ。一度秋の「定山渓温泉」に訪れると、その景色の虜になる人が多く、1年の中でも特に訪れる客の多い季節です。

　北海道を代表する大きな山である大雪山の麓にあって、冬には「層雲峡氷瀑まつり」という大イベントが開催される「層雲峡」にあるのが「層雲峡温泉」です。
　「層雲峡温泉」は、北海道の中でも大きな規模の温泉地で、大雪山連山の大渓谷の大自然を満喫できるのが特徴のひとつです。
　温泉では、大雪山の豊かな自然を楽しめるように露天風呂が多く存在していて、旅館だけでなく、共同の温泉施設などさまざまな温泉の種類があります。
泉質は単純硫黄泉がベースとなっていて、リウマチや糖尿病、高血圧に良いとされています。
　最近では、温泉街の中心部がカナダの山岳リゾート地である「キャニオンモール」風に新しく整備されて、北海道のほかの温泉街とは異なって欧米風の素敵な雰囲気を醸し出していますよ。

　また「層雲峡温泉」の周辺には、ロープウェイやスキー場など大自然を生かしたさまざまな観光地があるので、観光客の方でも気軽に訪れることができます。
