衣服で防寒の知恵

北海道は、夏は涼しくて過ごしやすい反面、冬は厳しい寒さに包まれます。地区によっては気温が-30℃になるところもあるほど。「札幌雪まつり」や「層雲峡氷瀑まつり」など、寒い気候を利用した冬まつりが有名ですが、本州から観光に行かれる方は、どのように防寒対策をしたら良いのか戸惑われるのではないでしょうか？
今回は、冬の北海道を楽しむための防寒対策を掘り下げてみたいと思います。
まず、驚くのは北海道の人は「あまり厚着をしていない」ことです。生足にミニスカートの女子高生もいたりして、初めて見た時は卒倒しそうになりました。長年の暮らしで寒さに慣れたからだろうか？とも思いましたがどうやら違うようです。理由はズバリ「外に出ないから。」余りに寒すぎるので、基本的に外出せず暖房の効いた室内から室内へ素早く移動するから薄着のままなのだそうです。と言ってもこれでは答えになりませんね＾＾；
薄着に見えるのは、上着を脱いでいるからなのです。外出する際に、北海道の人は脱ぎ着のしやすいアウターを重ね着していきます。というのも、道内の屋内はどこも汗をかくほど暖房をきかせています。建物も完全防寒建築で全館集中暖房、常夏の温かさを保っています。一方屋外は例えるなら冷凍庫。寒暖の差が激しすぎるので、それを踏まえた服装が大事なのです。
下着やインナーで防寒していると屋内で汗だくになってしまい、そのまま外に出ると汗が冷えて体温が下がってしまいます。フリースや薄めのダウンジャケットなど、重ね着で体温調節できるアイテムを愛用しているようです。なかでも必須アイテムは、ウィンドブレーカーのような風をシャットアウトできる素材のもの。ニットのように目があると、風が入り込んでしまうそうです。ボトムは、ズボン下やタイツは必須。ジーンズは雪道でこけたりして水を含むと乾かずに冷えてしまうので、ナイロン素材のパンツが理想的です。手袋・帽子・マフラーの小物も、防寒と怪我防止になるので必ずつけましょう。そして、一番大事なのが靴。路面はスケートリンクのようにツルツルになっています。間違って革靴なんかで来ると滑るし足指は凍傷になるしで大変なことになります。防寒ブーツを準備していきましょう。歩き方はペンギンのように小股で少しずつが安全ですよ。
いろいろと挙げましたが、困ったら現地のデパートなどで買い足せばＯＫです。本場の防寒着なので機能性は折り紙付きです。気軽に冬の北海道へお出かけしましょう！
